It is comfortable for the teacher, familiar to the students, and one of the least efficient uses of the last three weeks before an exam. Re-hearing an explanation you already half-know produces a strong feeling of readiness and very little readiness.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Ch2>Revision is testing, not telling\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>The reason is the same one behind retrieval practice: the effort of pulling something out is where the strengthening happens. A revision session where the teacher talks for forty minutes has moved all the effort onto the wrong person. Flip the ratio, so that the students are working and you are diagnosing.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Ch2>A workable structure\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Ten minutes: cold questions across the whole syllabus.\u003C/strong> No warning, no topic announced. This is your map of where the gaps actually are, which is reliably different from where you assume they are.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Twenty-five minutes: the two weakest areas only.\u003C/strong> Chosen from the ten minutes you just ran, not from your plan. This is the part where you may re-explain, briefly, and then immediately practise.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Fifteen minutes: exam-condition questions, timed.\u003C/strong> Under time pressure, with the real format. Many students who know the material still lose marks to the format, and the format is trainable in a way the content is not, at this stage.\u003C/li>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Five minutes: what each student does before next time.\u003C/strong> Written down, specific, one topic. \"Revise everything\" is not an instruction.\u003C/li>\n\u003C/ul>\n\n\u003Ch2>Interleave rather than block\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Do not spend the whole session on one topic. Mixing topics inside one session feels harder and performs better, because in the exam nothing arrives labelled with which method to use, and choosing the method is a separate skill that blocked practice never trains.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Ch2>Resist the request to \"just go over everything\"\u003C/h2>\n\u003Cp>Students ask for this because coverage feels safe.
